Beginners

Walk or run your way to your first 5K! The Glastonbury River Runners organizes FREE nine-week beginner training programs in the run-up to each of our three annual 5K races. Dates for 2012 are as follows:

  • February 11th, 2012: Start of nine-week beginner program leading up to the 2nd Annual Spicy Green Bean Run Diva Run on April 15th.
  • April 28th, 2012: Start of nine-week beginner program leading up to the 4th Annual NRG Energy Firecracker 5k on July 1st.
  • September 8th, 2012: Start of nine-week beginner program leading up to the 5th Annual NRG Energy Race to Fill the Pantry on November 11th.

The Glastonbury River Runners is also launching a new training group for walkers – the Glastonbury River Walkers a.k.a. Rockin’ Walkers – starting January 7th, 2011. The goal is to walk a marathon in the fall of 2012 – with lots of shorter races, fun and laughter in between! Click here for information on the Walk Your Way to a Marathon program.

Training sessions

  • Saturday mornings @ 8 AM at Riverfront Park (100 Welles Street) in Glastonbury.
  • Tuesday evenings @ 6 PM at Rotary Field, Olde Stage Road, Glastonbury.

Course goal

By the end of the program you will be ready to complete the 5K race – and that’s just the start of it!

Suitable for all current fitness levels, with multiple groups and certified coaches on hand. We provide a supportive, friendly environment that encourages each of us to achieve our personal best.

All you have to do is show up…and we’ll keep you going! ALL ABILITIES WELCOME!
