By race directors Rich Baber and Susan Sacco
Summer is here, and we at the GRR are kicking off the season on Sunday, July 1st at the 4th Annual NRG Energy Firecracker 5k.
This event, the second club race of the year, starts and ends at Rotary Field and winds its way on a gently rolling course through the Buttonball neighborhood. This year, in addition to our many regulars, we will be welcoming the graduates of our beginners training group as they run their first 5k, and the many young people who have been diligently training for this through our Zoomerangs running program. It promises to be a great time.
There are a number of ways that you can help out to help make this year’s Firecracker a first class event.
- First, we need runners, so encourage your friends and family members to register and run, or run it yourself.
- And, of course, we need lots of volunteers; helping with registration, or with food, manning the water stop, or marshaling runners on the course, etc. Here are the different volunteer options. If you would like to help, contact Jessica Crowley at email@example.com.
- Or you can help with the food. President Erik Emanuele and the Activities Committee will be cooking up post-race hotdogs and we will, as always, be offering our signature home made cookies. Jenn Lessow-Johnson will be coordinating food, so if you feel like baking a batch of your favorites, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- And do come out and cheer on our runners and walkers as they achieve their personal triumphs.
So put the NRG Energy Firecracker 5k on your calendar for July 1st. Celebrate summer and our nation’s independence by helping us make this year’s Firecracker the best yet.
Thanks and see you on race day!
