This past Sunday, one of the region’s premier running events took place at Rotary Field in Glastonbury; our 3rd annual “NRG Energy Firecracker 5k”. For a full list of race results, please see the Last Mile Racing website.
Under ideal running conditions; 60s and sunny, new course records were set in several age groups including the overall records by three time winners Duncan Garity (15:59) from West Hartford and Liz Gottlieb (18:30) from San Rafael, California.
The first club member to cross the finish line was Michael Keenan who won the 30-39 age group in 17:11 followed by 13 year old Conner Gralton who ran a speedy 19:19.
Congratulations goes out to all runners and walkers who participated in Sunday’s race. And particlularly, to the members of Coach Emily Cropper’s beginner’s training group who inspired us all by completing their very first 5k.
Thanks to all GRR members whose hard work made this great event possible.
To our Race Committee (Susan Sacco, Shaun O’Rourke, Tricia King, Louise Rusinak, Kate Rich, Katie England-Marino, Kevin Rice, Razia Hashmi, Teresa Giacalone) who have been tending to all of the details for many weeks.
And to Erik Emanuele and our Activities Committee who grilled our holiday hot dogs, DJ Nathan Cropper, Kid’s Race Director Michael Keenan, parking coordinator Bob Gralton, sweepers Tom and Peggy Kehoe, and to all of the club members who came out on race day and volunteered.
